Ok so Reps are saying, without investigating anything, that Brett Cavanaugh did not sexually assault anyone in high school.
But they also don’t want the FBI to investigate. Why not? If they are convinced that he didnt do this, what could be the harm in an investigation?
If he is innocent and the claims are false, the investigation will prove them right. You’d think they would welcome an investigation that could clear the name of the person they support for SCOTUS.
The answer is two-fold:
1. They are in a hurry to get their nominee confirmed before the midterms and they know that an investigation would delay this.
2. An investigation might prove the allegations true and A) They look like tools for supporting him. B) It might mean he can’t be confirmed. C) It will force them took address an issue that would rather just sweep under the rug.
And so…in conclusion,
1. Reps accused Dems of being aware of the accusation but holding onto it until now prompting them to use that as an excuse not to investigate
2. Reps wanted to ignore the accusation and push through the nomination. They felt like an investigation would take too long and would push things past midterms when more Dems would be in Congress to weigh in. This could put this nomination in jeopardy.
3. Reps apparently knew about the second accuser but were hoping it would stay under wraps as it puts an even more severe wrinkle in the nomination which was supposed to be a slam dunk.
So to sum up: Reps are doing the very same thing they are accusing the Dems of, which THEY say would delay the confirmation.
The Toddler in the White House
Okay my thought for today: Trump seems to want to change…everything about how things are run but he knows nothing about how government is actually run.
So…next time he talks about reducing restrictions on this or removing protections on that, why don’t his generals or his advisors just tell him,”That can’t be changed. It has to stay the way it is”. Or tell him “a president is limited to change X number of things in order to maintain the structure of democracy”.
It’s like when you tell a toddler, “Nope, there are no more cookies. They’re all gone” when you know darn well there is half a bag in that cabinet but you lie because you know it’s not good for a toddler to eat cookies whenever he wants.
That’s what we are dealing with here. A toddler with the power to destroy this country. So we need to tell him that there is no more power in the cabinet…for his own good and the good of the country.
In His Own Reality
Okay so now Trump is claiming that less than 20 people died in Puerto Rico due to the hurricane and not the 3000+ that actually did and that the discrepancy is due to the Dems wanting to make him “look bad”. Oh no dummy, you managed to look bad all by yourself. Congratulations.
I mean…what gives? Will he demand death certificates from the 3000 families who lost loved ones in that hurricane to prove that it actually happened? And if they do, will he then call the certificates fakes? Will this be another birther thing? You know it’s not a crazy possibility. Not with dumpy at the helm.
And with these increasingly obvious lies (or…lack of a firm grasp of reality), is this yet another crack in the armor of his psyche? Another break with reality? Like when he claimed that it stopped raining and the sun came out when he gave the speech at his inauguration. Or when he claimed to have the largest inauguration crowd in history when aerial photos clearly show the reality.
When will congressional Reps see this and do something about it? At what point do they go,”Oh wait, supporting that nonsense makes US look bad and SOME of us are up for re-election in the midterms.”?
Either way, midterms will bring more Dems to Congress and this will slow, if not stop entirely, the hemorrhage, that is the trump administration.
Could impeachment, or better yet, annulment of his presidency as a whole be far behind?
That Flight is Grounded for Good
People on the right, and even some on the left say, “I don’t want Trump to fail. Would you want the pilot of a plane to fail?”. False equivalence here. No one wants an actual pilot to fail. This assumes that the pilot is trained and qualified to fly the plane in the first place. This also assumes that the pilot doesn’t WANT the plane to crash.
Trump is another story. He is not trained, nor is he qualified to run this country. He had proven repeatedly that he is trying to bring this country down. So his failure means the country succeeds. His failure means that we maintain clean water and air. His failure means that renewable energy is available. His failure means that we have not been sold to the Russians. So yes…I want Tump to fail.
